2022 is almost over and it’s time for us to recap everything that blessed our eyes throughout the years. There have been some terrific and fabulous interior design solutions that have stunned both interior design veterans and fresh-eyed enthusiasts alike.
This is our comprehensive list of the trends that made the biggest, and hopefully the most lasting impact on the area of interior design. These trends had designers and buffs buzzing with enthusiasm and positivity, so all we can do is hope that they’ll stick around in 2023 as well.
Shades of green
Green had a major moment this year and we were here for it! People were hungry for some outdoor and wilderness vibes, so they brought it into their respective interiors. Needless to say, ever since early spring of 2022 we’ve been repeatedly blessed with luscious deep greens, oceanic turquoise, cadmium viridescent and so many more wonderful shades of green.
Vintage ft. New, remix
It seemed that instead of buying new furniture people were increasingly admixing some amazing vintage pieces. Once designers realized how well vintage can work when added into mainly modern spaces, they decided to tune in and make it a trend. At this point, it seems that vintage is in a steady marriage with modern and their romance is showing everywhere.
Biophilic’s Royal Highness
We’ve already mentioned green up there and it kind of ties in with this trend as well. Biophilic design is a direct consequence of these difficult two years that are now behind us. People are eager to go out and it shows. Biophilic design is all about becoming one with nature and bringing those glorious fruits of nature into your home. Natural materials such as wool, coir, hemp, and silk, open and sunny natural colors, and all types of shrubs, trees, creepers, and climbers are welcome. The more plants, the merrier.
Curvey is the new skinny
It was all about the curvy lines in 2022. The geometric and angular shapes are a thing of the past now, as the goal became for everything to look round, soft, and arched. This trend took over both interior design and architecture alike and that is always a good sign that it is here to stay for a long while. Curves were also called out in Pinterest’s Trend Prediction Report for 2022, so we can’t say that it surprised us. People have been buying rounded sofas and building curved walls for a while now, so this trend came gradually over the past two or three years.
Dwindling down of the home office trend
Home offices became a necessity during the pandemic and interior designers did what they could with them. It looked good for a while, but unless you have a whole room to dedicate to it, your home office area will always look misplaced. And not just misplaced. If you don’t like your job, it may even end up looking eerie and terror-inducing. This year people started transitioning their home office spaces back to their original purposes. So homes all over the globe got back their game rooms, guest rooms, and walk-in closets.
2022 was the year of coming back to usualness. And before you start ranting, yes, it’s a real word. I checked. And what a nice word it is. It was relaxing coming back to usualness after the hectic times we’ve been through. We started to venture out into the world again, but for most of us, our homes remained our base. The awesome trends in this article are a direct product of that change and we truly hope they’ll just keep blossoming in the future.
