Wherever you may live right now, chances are you were probably home-bound for a long while. Whether if it’s due to coronavirus, some natural disaster, or riots due to some awful social injustice, a large majority of us were forced to work from home. Existing home offices were used to their maximum potential or created in the most unlikely spaces. Some of us had to adapt our bedrooms, home-gyms, and storage-rooms, others added work-desks to their bedrooms and living-rooms. All in all, it was and still is a fun experience altogether. #sarcasm

Needless to say, at this point, we are all sick and tired of our home-offices, laptops. We are all in dire need of something new and good. Changing ourselves takes time, laptops remain pretty much the same, but one thing we can change is our home-offices. While making this awesome list of tips and tricks we kept in mind all types of budgets, so you will surely find something that will help you freshen up your own home office.

1. Walls

One of the best things you can do to make your home-office appear new and vibrant is to re-paint your walls. Choosing the right color for your home office can be a make-or-break deal and it can heavily affect your will to work in it. If you are working in a creative field you want to go for the color that will promote creativity. Red, yellow, and green will do miracles to boost your creativity. If your job requires a lot of concentration you should paint your walls black or deep-blue. Black color attracts positive energy and it never goes out of trend, so it is always a good choice, while blue works as a terrific stress reliever.

2. Change your desk

When I say change your desk, I don’t necessarily mean that you should buy a new one. If your current desk is a quality wooden desk that fits your needs, there is no reason for you to go buy another one. However, there are many ways to change your good ole office-tool without actually changing it. First of all, you can hire a mosaic artist to do a fabulous mosaic design on your desk sides or edges or you can check out some of our gorgeous borders here at MosaicLab and change your dingy old desk yourself. Aside from mosaic, you can also go for a decoupage desk and let your local decoupage do their magic. However, I will always advise you to go for mosaic art because it is highly-durable, it never grows old and it doesn’t require any type of special maintenance. Whatever else you choose you will at least have to at least lacquer your desk from time to time.

3. Bring the outdoors inside

Add some green curtains to your office window, go for a rug with floral patterns, add a forest-scene background to your computer screen… The possibilities are endless. Don’t forget to add some plants. For example, Devil’s Ivy and Aglaonema would look great on your desk and they are easy-to-care-for. If your desk is too small and you don’t have any shelves, just put a gorgeous Ficus Benjamina or cactus on the floor and your office will look much better immediately.

4. Think — Maldives, Japan, Seychelles, Alps…

Inject your favorite or your wishful-thinking destinations into your home-office. Hang a rattan chandelier on your ceiling, use a huge Triton seashell as a paper-holder, or hang a Hyottoko mask on your wall. I always thought seashore and mountain-paintings in offices looked tacky and travel-agency-ish, but if you are into that, go for it! It’s your home office, I won’t judge.

5. Show off your hobbies

Your hobbies are always the things you love, while your work doesn’t have to be, so make it more loveable by bringing some small portion of your hobbies into your home-office. If you are into cars, put some Oldsmobile maquettes on your shelves, if you’re into manga comics frame your favorite pages and hang them on your walls. Be careful not to go too crazy with it though, because if you add too much of your hobby into your office it could work as a distraction.

All in all, your office — your rules. We are just here to give you some ideas and help you cope with this current situation with some lighthearted, but constructive and colorful articles. We hope that we have managed to make this blog a safe space for you to go to whenever you need some brightness and useful tips to lighten up your day.
