Interior design trends are constantly evolving and our homes seem to be at their mercy most of the time. However, home renovation is far too expensive and takes too much work to be repeated every few years. On that note, it is good to try and predict the trends that should be avoided because they are likely to become outdated sooner rather than later.

Design experts don’t have special crystal balls and you won’t catch them playing with tarot cards trying to predict the future. However, they do have a couple of important advantages. They have experience in the industry and sometimes even insider knowledge.

There are many reasons why a particular trend becomes outdated or even hated. after all, we do live in the age of cancel culture and political correctness, and even trends can become victims to them. Let’s chat about some trends experts claim won’t age well and try to discover the reasons why that may be the case.

WHITE AND GRAY DOMINATION

White and gray have been dominating interiors around the world for years at this point, but it seems that the world is about to face the fact that beauty truly lies in variety. Minimalism already started to fade out and with it so will all white and gray interiors. Both tend to look cold and lack distinction and the world is catching up on that as we speak. Bolder colors are about to hit the main stage and we are here for it!

FURNITURE SETS

It is nice and satisfying when things match, but it can quickly turn into too much of a good thing. This goes especially for living room sets where each furniture piece mirrors the next without any novelty or additional detail. We are more likely to see the popularization of individual pieces that both contrast and complement each other in the near future.

PASTEL AND WHITE MARBLE COUNTERTOPS

Marble countertops are quite the star of kitchens around the world at the moment. However, designers predict this expensive trend will become a problem in a year or two, especially for those who like to spend a lot of time cooking and baking. Unlike quartz and granite, gentle-tone marble tends to stain and even chip quite easily. Marble countertops are satisfying to look at, but they are expected to become a bummer to have sooner rather than later.

TV-CENTRIC LIVING ROOMS

Now we are not saying throw out your TV sets, but maybe forget that they are in your living rooms, at least for some time. Living rooms have been revolving around TV screens for decades, but it seems that the end of the pandemic is finally putting a stop to that trend. I guess we all had our fill of binge-watching in isolation, so it’s time to shut down the TV for the time being. So if you are about to remodel your living room and make the TV its main focus, think twice.

PATTERNED BATHROOM TILES

Patterned tiles have been trendy for a couple of years and everyone seems to love them, from celebrities to your average stay-at-home mom of two. However, some experts think that they will do some serious soul-searching once the popularity of this expensive trend dies out. Tiles are one serious investment in terms of both price and installation. they are costly and a bummer to replace. Installing new tiles takes both a lot of money and time, so think twice before you go for patterned tiles. they are simply too “loud” to last. If you want bold but timeless better go for mosaic tiles. They are stunning and they never go out of style.

These are just some of the interior design choices people will likely regret in the near future. However, interior design is after all a personal choice and if you decide to go for some of these no one will come knocking on your door to stop. We are just saying that you should be careful with following some of the trends that pop up these days, or you just might end up with an empty wallet afterward.
