Part 3: Offices (Home and Business)

Just like your home, offices can benefit from the unique attributes of mosaics. Here are some ideas to add a personal touch to your business.

RECEPTION AREA

This area is your public front and will provide the first impression to anyone entering your business so make it count. Nothing screams more of lack of personality and imagination than white walls, stock photos, and bland corporate “art”. An original focal point, on the other hand, will make a strong statement and immediately set you apart.

The first thing to consider is how you want your employees and visitors to feel as they step through the front door. Below are a few points to keep in mind while pondering these questions.

Scale: One or two large pieces instead of multiple smaller ones will make your space feel bigger and send a more dramatic message.

Colors: Neutral tones with subtle color accents are appropriate for conservative offices.

In this mosaic artwork, the colors are subdued but the subject packs a punch. Visitors will feel the powerful stare of the tiger as it greets them.

The white walls and furniture make this space feel larger and airier while the gold hues and classic theme of the mosaic add drama.

For creative offices, a more vibrant selection will reflect its innovative nature.

This piece isn’t just colorful but also exotic and alluring. Visitors are sure to be mesmerized by the blue haired warrior.

If the environment is already brightly colored select a piece that picks up on the existing color scheme to tie the mosaic and the surroundings together.

Another consideration is to incorporate your company’s colors in the focal piece or even custom order one.

Recreating a mosaic version of picturesque logo like the Versace Medusa can be a stunning way to greet clients.

MEETING ROOMS

A large focal piece will set the tone for the meetings.

This “Wall Street Bull” mosaic exudes strength and determination sure to fire up your team.

A more playful yet still stylish focal point can be conducive to creative meetings. The alternating chairs enhance the eclectic and casual feel.

HALLWAYS

Last but not least mosaics can also be used as murals to add personality to narrow spaces that often get neglected.

HOME OFFICES

Your home office allows for more flexibility but there are still a few factors you should take into consideration for your focal point.

Arrangement: Since this space is often more limited you should avoid bulky furniture. You’ll also want to stick to a medium sized focal piece that won’t feel overwhelming or distracting yet will add life and fun to your workspace.

Colors: A clean color scheme will keep you more focused.

While the greys within the mosaic pick up on the surrounding walls the red heart introduces much needed warmth. The little girl and the umbrella add a lively touch.

A colorful piece in a minimalistic environment allows you to recharge before diving back into your spreadsheets or grand novel.

More important than any rule is to choose a motif that inspires you. So if a beautiful ocean view keeps up your spirit while you work on your taxes, go for it.
