Kitchen Mosaics: Beyond Backsplashes
Feb 15, 2018 by Dorian Richard
Personalization, bolder choices in color and materials, mixing and matching styles, colors, and materials are an increasing trend in interior design. The search for unique items that tell a story has made mosaics a popular choice within this trend. Though traditionally used for Kitchen Backsplashes mosaics can be used creatively in many ways to give your kitchen that very personal and inspiring touch. Here are some ideas to update your backsplash and beyond.
BACKSPLASHES
As mosaics are heat and waterproof and easy to clean they have long been a popular choice as Kitchen Backsplashes. But why go for a generic geometric pattern when your backsplash can become a true focal point and even a piece of art for your family to enjoy?

EXTENDED BACKSPLASHES
There is no reason to limit a Kitchen Mosaic Backsplash to the oven or sink. In this example, the walls are covered with tiles to create a Moroccan inspired decor incorporating the popular blues of this year.

VIBRANT COLORS
Speaking of colors, 2018 is the year of bold statements and bold color choices. Tile Mosaics can either become a strong counterpoint or mirror these colors.

JUXTAPOSITION
Another growing trend is the juxtaposition of various textures and materials. In the example below the smooth marble tile mosaic is a beautiful counterpoint to the rough river stones, the glass lights, and the light and dark wood. Its delicate design is also in sharp contrast to the heavier curves on the kitchen island.

MOSAIC ACCENTS
No need to redo your entire kitchen to give it a more contemporary and eclectic look. A few personalized items and a custom mosaics will give a unique touch to a more traditional kitchen.

Adding a table with a vibrant and entertaining mosaic top is one of the easiest ways to introduce color and life as well as a unique touch to your kitchen space. Your morning coffee will be much more enjoyable in the company of these cheerful girls.
KITCHEN FLOORS
Last but not least a tiled floor that either picks up on or contrasts the cabinet colors is a great way to bring a space together.

2018 is the year of self-expression and individual statements. So be bold and find that mosaic that uniquely speaks to you because in the end trends come and go but your mosaic will last you a long long time.
