MAISON & OBJET 2020 opened its doors between January 17–21, 2020 at the Paris Nord Villepinte; a fresh and open venue that boasts eco-conscious spaces and airy interiors.

This year’s themes mirrored the rising collective conscious of a turbulent world, surrounding the exciting theme of (RE)generation — giving credence to the voice of the people, climate activism and liberation, and begging the question; what does this year have in store for our ever-changing world, for our transforming attitudes and desire for positive action? MAISON & OBJECT “will set out to analyze the attitudes, desires, and expectations of Generation Y and Z’s digital natives. A whole year’s celebrations will be devoted to these committed millennials who, confronted with the current crises, are looking for a better world, changing the rules and revolutionizing consumer behavior in both the home and lifestyle sectors.”

Upcycling and recycling is all the rage at M&R, from curtains made from recycled plastic bottles to nature-inspired textures.
Natural tones replace garish shades, nature replaces them. Design by Luxxu.

This engaged and informative approach will be supplemented by an incredible installation by the designer of the year 2018 Ramy Fischler, who’s forward-thinking, sci-fi living spaces will connect us to what lies in store for us. “5 people will act out what life will be like in the co-living spaces of the future, exploring these new situations right in front of visitors and under the eye of the cameras in a “laboratory for testing new uses”.

Nature-inspired home accents infuse this space with color and organic vibrancy. Design by Rug’Society.
As we seek more nature in our spaces, greenery, and nature-derived home accents become an essential part of our homes.

Last year bought with it a series of questions, the youth spoke up and the world shouted out; from migration, the climate crisis, sexuality to gender, our world is a host of hot topics that forebode a quickly changing set of ideals and lifestyles. For our homes to mirror this change, designers have been on the ball with fresh ideas, outside-the-box thinking and a focus on sustainability, inclusivity, and function.

Inspired by Neolithic stone monuments, this simplistic stone table strips elegant design right back to our ancestors. Design by Brabbu.
Statement shapes and simplicity produce a classy comfort.

Generation Y and Z have inspired some truly mystifying trends in the design universe, not only are these trends visually dynamic and gorgeous, but they are reinforced by ethics and sustainability, what more could we (and the planet) ask for?
