Find out how you can express yourself and personalize your bedroom with some simple decoration tricks.

Speaking of bedroom decoration can be somewhat tricky. The Bedroom is the most personal space in someone’s home, so a variety of things to be considered come to mind. Things such as hobbies, personal preferences and the effect you want to achieve are just some of those things. One of the key points when it comes to bedroom decoration is also the age of the bedroom owner. For teenagers a bedroom isn’t just a bedroom, it’s where they have coffee and gossip with their besties, as well as where they do their school work. Age can really be the game-changer when decorating a bedroom. However, there are some generally applicable bedroom decoration ideas that can potentially work for any room and in this post, we will try to mention some major ones.

Storage Space

Every bedroom is kind of storage space too, after all, that’s where you keep your clothes, undies and if you are me, linen. So, buying a bunch of different size fun and colorful boxes to help you organize and store your stuff is both smart and will also do miracles for your bedroom décor. You can keep your boxes on the shelves, on top of your wardrobe, under your bed, or even on top of one another depending on the type of box you chose. I am a huge fan of the drawer-boxes, the ones with handles on one side. Boxes will also provide more spots where you can hide stuff and every woman will understand why we need hiding spots and what for (*wink wink).

Pillows Pillows And More Pillows

If your good old bed is starting to look a bit dull, pillows are the way to go. There is a variety of patterns, sizes, colors, and materials on the market, so it can be a bit overwhelming when you hit the store looking for your perfect pillow. The trick is not to look for the perfect pillow! Look instead for the one that will stand out the most. If your bed is looking boring, you don’t want to buy matchy-matchy pillows to go with it. Instead, buy some completely different decorative pillows and make your bed look exciting and new. Needless to say, your bed SHOULD look fun and inviting, not like a museum installation.

Wall Art

As much as I love paintings, I am after something a bit more here. Don’t settle for a hanged painting on your wall, go for a mural or a pop-art graffiti. It will make your bedroom look more hip. On the same note, a vibrant wall mosaic art is also a way to go. If you choose to hire an artist, they will probably have a ton of ideas for you, but I advise you to listen to your own instincts. After all, it is YOUR bedroom. Everything should tell a story about you, including your wall mosaic art. On the same note, if you are a movie buff or a book-nerd (proud one here), you can always enlarge and frame your favorite book cover or movie poster.

Colors

When it comes to bedroom decorations most designers stick with soothing color patterns, and I understand that. However, I a splash of your favorite vibrant color or shade won’t kill you. If you like lime, go for lime-green photo frames, if your fav lipstick is fuchsia, add a flaming pink pillow on your bed! The possibilities are endless! The point is, since your bedroom is so personal and private, you can go crazy and fully express yourself without any restraints.

To Mirror or Not…

In the end, I would like to pitch in with one of my very personal rules, but it may apply to anyone out there who feels the same way. I don’t have ANY mirrors in my bedroom. Hear me out before you start judging. Even as a small kid I never wanted a mirror in my bedroom, because I always felt like someone is looking at me while I’m sleeping. I had a small mirror that was facing my bed and when I eventually threw it out, I felt much better. Later, when I grew up, I found out that a mirror facing a sleeping bed is also bad according to Feng Shui. Experts say that a mirror can deplete the energy of a sleeper and create insomnia, as well as nightmares. However, don’t listen to me, or Feng Shui. As the popular slang says — you do you. I just wanted to show you how your personal feelings can and should dictate your sense of bedroom décor. Do what makes you feel comfortable and happy, and you can’t go wrong.
