Now that we are finally moving forward with the vaccine and the overall situation is starting to look somewhat better, we can at least think about some of the spots we could visit once the pandemic is over. Once this passed, I am telling you, we will celebrate! If we do it with some high art and travel — all the better.
So let’s do some stress reduction on the page and check out some of the best and most fabulous mosaic art destinations in the world.
Barcelona, Spain
Ah, Spain! The gorgeous country that gave us the mastermind that was Antonio Gaudi. The church La Sagrada Familia stands proudly in Barcelona’s Carrer de Mallorca representing one of the most amazing examples of mosaic art in the world. This marvelous masterpiece of architecture crowned with the mosaic adorned spires overlooking the city is a must-see for all of the mosaic art buffs. Barcelona also features the colorful Park Guelli, which was Gaudi’s home for more than two decades. One of its most famous representatives is the mosaic sculpture of El Draco situated at the entrance. You can buy its replica sold at the park and take a piece of Barca home with you.
London, England
London is the perfect destination for the fans of all sorts of cosmopolitan glee, historical sites aaaaand — mosaic art. From the mysterious unfinished mosaic artworks on the inside of the Westminster Cathedral to the famous Cosmati Pavement, London has earned its recognition as one of the must-see travel destinations in the world. The street art of Nambucca Heads features one of the most stunning mosaic murals you’ll ever have the pleasure of seeing. Examples of marine life and rolling waves depicted and adorned in mosaic of azure glass leaves tourists in awe whether they are mosaic buffs or not. Madaba, Jordan
The great city of Madaba is the home of the world’s oldest map of the Holy Land…DONE IN MOSAIC. Madaba’s Greek Orthodox church hosts the mosaic floor that survived since the year 560 and it is one of the most amazing and intricate mosaic artworks in the world. Madaba also features the Institute for Mosaic Art and Restoration, and you can see some of its artistic efforts in the Archeological Park and some other locations in the city.
